BARBATUS
— Character Spotlight

The Role He Cannot Leave

Barbatus Lusan grew up wealthy, trained at the College of Jesters in acting, rhetoric, and performance — and murdered his closest friend over a woman's heart. He has been running from that night ever since.

Fifteen years of roles

Under borrowed names he worked farms, apprenticed with craftsmen, and tried to build a quiet life — until suspicion, bounty hunters, or his own recklessness burned each one down. One betrayal cut deepest: a woman he loved turned out to be the hunter on his trail.

The birth of Vultur

Deep in the mountains he found a dead hermit that nobody cared about — and understood that the world forgets its fringes. He crafted a role from the corpse of that idea: Vultur, a savage mountain dweller who had never known civilization. The disguise has become the man.

Plays by lamplight

In a hidden cave he keeps his one treasure: weathered plays by Guar, Royal Playwright of Althas. From them he conjures company — debates with Lord Endafen, laughter with Garnax the Foolish Bard, arguments with the cruel Captain Crow. Whether they are memory or madness is a question he avoids.

Now

He fights with a whipsword and a grappler, moves like a wild animal, and carries iron-rich mountain mud on his skin like warpaint. On stage he was charming. In the wilds he is feared. He is learning — painfully — which role the party will let him keep.
